"Strong and Free"

The Fraser Institute released a vision document--A Canada Strong and Free--signed by former Ont. Premier Mike Harris and former leader of the Opposition Preston Manning. Amongst a host of sensible policy proposals, the authors suggest dumping federal jurisdiction over health care. That would mean gutting the Canada Health Act, and theoretically allowing the provinces to try out different experiments in health care provision--like, for instance, private health care.

This is great news. The sacred cow of Canadian politics is getting fitted for slaughter. I hope it will get plenty of attention. Thus far, it's been covered by the National Post ("Manning, Harris toss medicare bomb")

(I'll post future coverage as well).

I haven't got the chance to read the report, but I certaintly agree with the premise of it. Another good source on healthcare reform is Dr. David Gratzer's book, Code Blue. I posted a review of it here.
